EFT? But it Looks so Weird!
I’ll admit it! When I first saw an EFT demonstration, I thought it looked a bit weird. All this rubbing your chest and tapping different places on the body and making statements about how you feel. Aaargh! I’m English! I was not comfortable. And how do you tap your top lip when it’s programmed by geographical pre-dispositon to being stiff??
It took me about 5 minutes to get over myself when I realised that people where getting relief from really negative issues with EFT. The penny dropped for me when I realised that the tapping that happens in EFT is on a set sequence of meridian points. As soon as I noticed this I got hold of a list of the EFT points and looked up their acupuncture references; I could immediately see why EFT was so incredibly effective for dealing with emotional issues.
I was still a bit uncomfortable with the set-up statement business, but it soon became apparent to me that it really enhances the process and so I put my sense of reserve aside and set out to learn all I could about EFT. Within months I was demonstrating EFT at health shows around the UK and was surprised to find English folk very receptive and happy to having a powerful alternative to dealing with negative emotions than the traditional stiff upper lip.
If you’re thinking EFT looks weird you’ve nothing to lose (except a stack of negative emotions) by shuffling off into a dark and secret place and giving it a try!

New Study Considers Tension Anxiety a Real Threat to Our Health
Snip: Dr. Elaine D. Eaker of Eaker Epidemiology Enterprise conducted a study that found tension proved as fatal in men as high blood pressure, whereas anxiety raised the risks of women.
Study Summary:
-Tension increases a man’s risk of heart disease, heart rhythm abnormalities and death from any cause, while women who report a high degree of anxiety are at greater risk of death, a new study shows.
- In fact, Dr. Elaine D. Eaker of Eaker Epidemiology Enterprises in Chili, Wisconsin and colleagues note, tension increases men’s death risk to the same degree that high blood pressure does.
- “The implication is you need to take care of the tension in addition to taking care of your cholesterol and your diabetes,” Eaker told Reuters Health.
- Eaker and her team looked at 3,682 men and women participating in the Framingham Offspring Study, whose average age was 48.5 years, and followed them for 10 years.
- Men who reported higher-than-average levels of tension were 25% more likely to develop heart disease over the next 10 years, while their overall risk of death was 23% greater.
-They were also 24% more likely to develop atrial fibrillation (AF), a type of abnormal heart rhythm that can lead to stroke and death.
- For comparison, men with higher-than-average blood pressure face a 23% increased 10-year risk of death.
- A number of studies have linked heart disease to psychological factors, she added, but this is the first that was able to control for other risk factors for heart disease, such as cigarette smoking and being overweight, and the first to investigate tension.
- Past studies have also been limited because they have relied on chest pain and other “soft” endpoints, which don’t necessarily indicate heart disease, she added; however, this study used “hard,” unambiguous endpoints like heart disease, atrial fibrillation and death.
- People who are concerned about their feelings of tension and anxiety should see a health care provider, who can tell them if seeking counseling might be appropriate, Eaker said.
Or they can do what thousands of others have already done and get started with EFT. A few years ago I was asked to teach EFT to some workers at Alcatel’s massive production plant in Greenwich, UK. It took them about ten minutes to learn EFT and appreciate it’s value in reducing tension and anxiety. When I went back a couple of weeks later to see how they were getting on. I found that many of the ladies were regularly and openly using EFT for niggling anxiety and physical tension from performing repetitive tasks.
One lady told me she felt more relaxed at work and regularly tapped at her desk, another was getting relief from her RSI and anxiety at the same time (she was OK at work, but had anxiety in her home life she decided she could do without and was finding EFT easy and effective for reducing her anxiety on the spot any time she thought about what was troubling her home life). The ladies were open and supportive about using EFT, they reminded each other to tap and sometimes downed tools for a quick two-minute group tapping break. EFT had become part of their daily routine. When I spoke with some of the men I found that many of them had adopted regular use of EFT but were be more covert about it. Some said they just shut the office door for a minute or two for a quick and private EFT session, others took themselves off to a toilet cubicle and where now considering trips to the toilet as tension relief breaks!
I was delighted to see how EFT had been quickly adopted by everyone and I’m positive that it will serve them well as protection from the sobering findings in Dr Eaker’s study.

What are your Doubts Stopping you Doing?
“Your goals, minus your doubts, equal your reality.” ~ Marston
Have you ever wanted to start something and been stopped dead in your tracks by a nagging doubt? Was it something creative? A dream you always wanted to pursue? Or a career move, perhaps striking out on your own and being your own boss?
All too often we have a noble aspiration and see it shot down in flames before it even gets off the ground. The problem? Your doubts. Those lurking little negative beliefs the “buts” and “what ifs” the “I could nevers” and the “I’m no good ats”
One of my favourite self-help exercises is doubt busting. And one of my favourite tools for doubt bashing is, in case you haven’t already guessed, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). Though to call EFT a doubt basher doesn’t really do it justice. The neat thing about EFT is that it silences the voice of doubt and lets your previous stifled resources shine through.
I’ve lost count of the times I’ve sat and listened to people change from statements of self-doubt like: “I’m just no good at…” to “Well, I suppose I could start with… – what’s the harm?” It’s hard to convey the shift in energy and enthusiasm I’ve witnessed in using EFT for self-help issues, for getting started on a dream project, or for setting and meeting goals…
I guess you’d have to try EFT and find out for yourself

Are you Scared to Say No?
One way to cut down on the rising pile of musts and shoulds is to get comfortable with the saying no sometimes.
You may have noticed that you sometimes say yes out of a sense of guilt or obligation and when you already have too much on your plate. The trouble with saying yes from a place of unease is that you can easily get stressed and resentful of the task, or the person who requested it.
Sometimes the biggest favour you can do yourself and your family and friends is to cut back on overload and stress. That way you can get clear for what’s really important in your life. That doesn’t mean you have to say no to everything. It simply means you that you can be selective and get freed up and gain some space to set out your priorities.
If you find yourself cringing at the thought of saying no to someone, EFT might be just what you need. Thousands of people now use EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques as a self-coaching tool. All you need to do is look up the EFT Chart & Instructions and pick an opening statement that describes how you feel about saying no in one specific situation (you can get to the others later, for now you need to get very specific). An example might be “Even though I never feel I can say no to…”
Pick a phrase and tap your way through the sequence, you might be doing yourself and huge and liberating favour!
If you need a hand in getting EFT working for you, please feel welcome to contact me with your questions.

Using EFT for Comfort Habits – eating, shopping etc…
Over on tappingluau.com Olivia just posted a great way to work with EFT – she calls it “tapping for shadow comforts” here’s an excerpt:
I learned about a new concept today that was very helpful and inspirational to me—“shadow comforts”. I googled to see who first thought of this concept, and apparently it’s been around for quite a while, but it’s been popularized by one of my favorite authors, Jennifer Louden. She describes shadow comforts as “things like too many cookies, mindless TV, web surfing, shopping for that 15th pair of black pants”…oh, yeah, I know what she means.
She makes a good point here about getting ahead and getting prepared with shadow comforts. It’s a fact, once the urge is there to shop, surf, eat etc it’s almost too late to tap for it. Almost but not quite…
The easiest way to to sneak up on shadow comfort urges is to simply and mechanically tap through the three point quick anxiety stopper sequence. This is a set of three potent acupuncture points (contained within the full EFT sequence) that are known to stop anxiety and cravings quickly and easily – and with no words being necessary. One of the biggest challenges for people in learning EFT is the set-up statement. “I don’t know what to say!” is the most common FAQ on any EFT bulletin board. With the quick anxiety stopper sequence, you don’t have to say anything. Just tap the three points one after the other and then repeat until you feel calm and in control and completely free from the shadow comfort feeling.
The quick anxiety stopper can be downloaded on it’s own as an mp3 audio anxiety reducing session for just $5 or can be acquired as one of the MP3 bonuses with the EFT eBook: The Art & Science of Emotional Freedom, which, by the way, tells you exactly how to “get the words right” with loads of examples.

Report: EFT & Controlling Diabetes
A diabetes epidemic is overtaking the United States and the rest of the world. In less than 20 years, governments and social security systems may go broke paying expenses generated by this preventable illness. Diabetes cases are expected to double before the year 2025, and their health care costs will increase from $163 billion per year to $396 billion or more.
But while hospitals and public health services gear up for what they describe as an inevitable catastrophe, a small but growing number of diabetes patients are learning how to lose weight, balance their blood sugar, reduce their bodies’ need for insulin, and heal complications such as leg ulcers and insufficient circulation in the toes and feet. They are doing this not by going on rigorous diets or exercise programs but rather by tapping with their fingertips on key acupuncture points while focusing on symptoms or emotional issues.
“EFT is bioenergetic medicine,” explains best-selling health author Joseph Mercola, D.O. “It’s based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasiveness of needles. This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmations works to clear the ‘short-circuits’ – the emotional blocks – from the body’s bioenergy system, thus restoring the balance that is essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease. More than any traditional or alternative method I have used or researched, EFT works.”
Los Angeles physician Eric Robins, MD, agrees. “Some day the medical profession will wake up and realize that unresolved emotional issues are the main cause of 85 percent of all illnesses, including diabetes,” he says. “When they do, EFT will be one of their primary healing tools, as it already is for me.”

Guest Article: Destroy Limiting Decisions by Jan Tincher
Did you make a limiting decision as you were growing up? Maybe one
that said you couldn’t do something that basically everyone else could do,
but you decided you were too short, too tall, too rich, too poor, too fat,
too skinny, too cute, too ugly, etc.
Well, you’ve grown up and you’ve definitely changed since then, but you
still seem to *think* that way.
Maybe you are still too tall or whatever, and aren’t able to change that fact,
but you *can* change the way you think about it. You can take that limiting
decision and change it so you don’t *feel* that way, and most of all so you
don’t react negatively to it.
Here’s what you do…

Guest Article: Holding the Key to Your Emotions by Lesley Moore
Do you often feel that your mood is controlled by the people around you? Do you often find that even on one of your best days, there is always that one person who throws a wrench in it?
Many times, even when you’re having a great day, one unexpected turn can make that perfect day look horrible. Maybe it’s your co-worker who sees everything as negative, the slow driver holding up traffic, or your teenager’s hormones going wild…but in that instant, the positive outlook that you worked so hard to hold onto all day, is gone. Just like that. Suddenly you find yourself in the same negative space your co-worker is in, or with the same raging hormones your son/daughter now has.
How many times have you caught yourself saying, I was fine until you came in with that attitude?! As if someone else holds the key to your emotions, you quickly forget that you created the positive state you were in all day. It becomes almost an outer body experience, as someone else’s mood takes over yours. But do you have to let someone else’s day dictate how yours will go? Or can you truly hold onto the day you were already having, regardless of what else happens?
